I study Mechanical Engineering at OUSL. For me, engineering begins with paying attention: to a system, to its parts, to what is known, and to what still needs to be tested.

SELF-DIRECTED · EXAMPLE STUDY

A mechanism, explained in views

An illustrative exercise in turning an imagined mechanism into clear diagrams. It is a drawing study—not a tested assembly, engineering specification or manufactured part.

A STUDENT'S POINT OF VIEW

Fundamentals before shortcuts

As a first-year student, I’m building my understanding step by step. I’m drawn to the way mechanical systems combine motion, material, geometry and constraints, and to the value of communicating a technical idea clearly.

I like connecting coursework with practical curiosity: sketching a mechanism, thinking through how a part might be represented, and asking what evidence would be needed before making a confident claim.

How I want to work

  • Listen carefully and clarify the drawing or design brief
  • Check assumptions instead of silently guessing
  • Keep files, notes and revisions organised
  • Ask for feedback and apply it thoughtfully

This is an account of what I’m learning and how I try to approach it—not a claim to be a qualified engineer.
